AI Analytics Engineer

As an AI Analytics Engineer with an engineering-first mindset, you will play a pivotal role in making AI-assisted decisionmaking a company-wide competitive advantage. You will build the semantic foundations, data models and intelligent workflows that let people across the company ask better questions of our data and get answers they can trust and act on. We believe that data at its best is like an operating system for making better decisions, and AI is one of best tools available to put that operating system in everyone's hands.

Your mission is to scale AI-assisted analysis throughout the company. You'll turn our data into governed, AI-ready semantic models and build the conversational and agentic analytics experiences on top of them. These will support decisions in areas such as commercial performance, assortment and collection planning, pricing and promotions, and demand and business forecasting.

We are looking for a builder who combines strong analytics engineering and data modeling skills with hands-on experience in modern AI tooling. You also have the commercial curiosity to find where better decisions create the most value. You know that an AI answer is only as good as the models, definitions and data behind it. You also know how to take AI-assisted analytics from impressive demo to something the business relies on every day.

You will take the lead on building our AI-ready data foundation and on driving adoption across teams, so that insight becomes part of how we work rather than something we wait for. Don't worry, you'll also have a great team and tools around you to help along the way.

This is a full-time and permanent position at Marimekko’s Technology function at HQ in Helsinki. In this position you will report to our Head of Data & Insights.

Responsibilities

Scaling AI-Assisted Analysis

  • Build and operate AI-assisted analytics experiences, such as conversational analytics, natural-language querying, automated insight generation and analysis agents, that make self-service analysis accessible across functions including the necessary guardrails and quality control which build trust.
  • Drive adoption across the company by onboarding teams, identifying high-value use cases, measuring usage and impact, and continuously improving based what you see moving the needle.

Decision Support & Advanced Analytics

  • Partner with business stakeholders to frame key decisions and deliver the data products and analytical models that support them, such as forecasting, scenario and what-if analysis or customer segmentation.
  • Embed insights directly into decision workflows and planning processes, moving the company from retrospective reporting to proactive, AI-supported action.

Collaboration & Strategic Insight

  • Translate business questions and decision processes into semantic, data modeling and technical requirements and working solutions.
  • Act as a bridge between the data team and business units, explaining what AI-assisted analysis can and can't do in a way that fosters trust and responsible use.

Support in Building Semantic Models & an AI-Ready Data Foundation

  • Support the team in designing, building and maintaining AI-ready semantic models covering business entities, metrics, dimensions, relationships and definitions, so that people and AI agents interpret data consistently and correctly.
  • Support designing governed, single-source-of-truth metric definitions together with business owners. Encode business logic, context and documentation in a form that AI and self-service BI tools can reliably use.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Information Systems or a related quantitative field.
  • Proven experience in analytics engineering, data modeling or advanced analytics, with solutions used by business teams in production. Experience in retail, e-commerce or marketing is a major plus.
  • Strong dimensional and semantic modeling skills, with hands-on experience with semantic layers and metric definitions (e.g. dbt Semantic Layer, Snowflake semantic views or Cortex Analyst, or similar).
  • Proficient in dbt, Fivetran, SQL, Python and Snowflake. Experience in using Omni is considered a plus.
  • Hands-on experience building with LLMs and agents for data use cases, such as text-to-SQL, retrieval over business context, tool use and evaluation.
  • Proactive and structured approach to development, with a focus on clean, maintainable, tested and scalable code and data models.
  • A pragmatic, value-driven mindset. You prioritize solutions that improve real decisions over chasing a theoretically optimal solution, and you care as much about adoption as about technical quality.

Why join us?
In this role, you won't just be "doing AI". You'll be building the foundation that shapes how the whole company understands its business and makes decisions. You will have the autonomy to design how data, semantics and AI come together, and to turn analysis from a bottleneck into a capability everyone can use. You'll be part of a forward-thinking team that values innovation, speed and the purposeful application of technology to create a competitive edge.

At Marimekko we encourage people to be themselves and value diversity. We believe in fairness and doing things together, using common sense and finding joy in our work.
